About Us

The Owlsnest is the culmination of a 45 year project. It began in 1974 with the combining of two circa 1840-1860 Chestnut Oak log cabins that were moved from a mile or so up the mountain.

Each had one badly rotted out wall. These  were placed at right angles allowing wide French door access to a large screen porch which is under a sundeck. The two cabins were connected by a cordwood wall that became the kitchen.

Most recently, a family room addition was completed. The walls are a curved mural made from colorful  bottles. It is named The Owlsnest after its first inhabitant seen below. The furniture in the room is all movable so that pieces can be configured for watching a movie on a rainy day, or doing a Yoga or dance class, or group projects with friends.

The property lends itself to photography, forest bathing or bathing in the river, even sitting in a natural whirlpool rapid or stretching out on a big rock listening to the water flow by.

The Owlsnest is "out in the country". You will potentially see many deer, rabbits, duck, geese, frogs, bears, Cardinals, woodpeckers, Heron, Kingfishers, and snakes just to name a few. We hope you won't see any vermin inside as we have a monthly exterminator come to the property. However, if this possibility would ruin your visit, there may be other opportunities to pursue that are less in the wild.
